About Sallie Spencer
Sallie Spencer is an oil painter inspired by the interplay of light, structure, and color in the landscapes of the American Southwest. Raised in the Midwest, she earned her BFA from Western Michigan University in 1987 before beginning her career in graphic design, where she developed a strong sense of composition and design.
After living and painting in California, Georgia, and Indiana, Sallie now resides in her native Texas, dividing her time between the Hill Country town of Boerne and the coastal community of Port Aransas. These contrasting landscapes—rolling hills and dramatic canyons, serene beaches and shifting Gulf waters—provide constant inspiration for her work.
Influenced by the Early California Plein Air Impressionists, including Edgar Payne, Sallie paints daily, working both en plein air and in the studio. Her work is included in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, and she is an active member of several professional art organizations.
